Shadow Ghosts

Shadow Ghosts

Shadow ghosts as they are known appear as a shadow of sorts. They look a bit like mist but are dark grey to black in colour. There are actually three separate types and we list them all in classes below. In photographs, it's easy to confuse them with natural shadows, so be careful with your analysis. They are usually extremely and evasive. When they are spotted it's usually out of the corner of your eye or as they are darting through a wall. They can also be spotted as a reflection in shinny objects like mirrors. As for photography, They are one of the rarest ghost types to be captured on film. Birds and cats are especially sensitive to them.

Class 1 - Appear as a small dark misty cloud and are almost always under two feet in length, but can hover or float up to 8 feet high.

Class 2 - Appear as a huge glob of thick cloudy mass. They typically range from 2 to 8 feet in height.

Class 3 - Appear in human form and some may be seen wearing a hat. They typically appear up to 8 feet in height.

These are most often spotted in homes and have also been seen outdoors at a distance.

I think the general consensus would be that they are ghosts in one of their forms. Some people say that they are demonic spirits or creatures, but that doesn't seem to be the case, at least in most cases.

Why Do We Fear Ghosts?

Why do we fear ghosts?

Ghosts have always been a source of fascination and fear. There exists in people the primal fear of the unknown, which has helped us to survive, to be cautious when stepping into unfamiliar territory. Ghosts also represent death. What exactly happens to us when we die? If we go somewhere else nice, why are the ghosts still here? Will we get stuck wandering about in some horrible place? What if a ghost appears to me? Will it harm me? These are common basic fears, and these fears have been strengthened through our storytelling.

But is there a basis to our fear? When applied to everyday life, what exactly is there to be afraid of? Some people say that there is more to fear from the living than the dead, this is probably true. Many people never quite make the connection between the facts that a ghost used to be a person. Just a person.

When people reach their adult years, most of us have experienced loosing someone they knew, or loved. So, if this person did not intentionally try to frighten or harm you while alive, why on earth would they try to do anything to harm you after death?

Some believe that ghosts visit specific places to have interaction with or visit the people they love. Some just seem to crave a bit of attention. I don’t know everything about ghosts, but I know one thing. Ghosts are only people, like you and I. When they shed their physical form, they do not become less human or less the person they were. Why fear them?

What Is Ectoplasm?

ECTOPLASM

Ectoplasm was coined from the Greek words ektos and plasma, which together means "outside formed." Ectoplasm is used to describe spiritual energy with substance.

Charles Richet created the word ectoplasm to first describe physical manifestations that appeared from psychic mediums during the late 1800's while in trances. Ectoplasm was purportedly secreted from the medium's orifices, such as the ears, nose or mouth. However, ectoplasm of this type was more of a hoax during the rise of spiritualism and fraudulent mediumship.

Today, ectoplasm has come to represent physical manifestations of mists believed to be ghosts.

At first being something more of legend and lore, the idea of ectoplasm was still popular, and eventually was used in plays, movies and books. But ectoplasm had a real rise in cultural popularity after the comedic movie Ghost Busters described green slime emitted by ghosts as "ectoplasmic residue." Most everyone who has ever seen the film can remember people getting "slimed" by the ghosts.

Today, ectoplasm in ghost investigations may still be described as any unknown physical substance, such as a slime, attributed to a haunting; but mostly photographic and video evidence of mists and vapors captured during ghost investigations are being called ectoplasm. When a mist is present that cannot be attributed to moisture, fog, smoke, cigarette smoke, steam, or breathe in cold air, the vaporous cloud can usually be attributed to being a physical manifestation of spirit. Ectoplasm is also called ghost mists, ghost fog, or ghost vapors by paranormal investigators.

The Diffrence Between Ghosts And Spirits

We are very often asked what, if any, difference is there between Ghosts & Spirits. I suppose to a certain degree you could suggest that they are one and the same, they are both essentially made of the same thing, energy.

Ghosts

A ghost is normally depicted as something that haunts people or places and therefore gives off a feeling of fear. The dictionary defines a ghost as "The Spirit or semblance of a dead person, believed to visit or haunt living people". Not very pleasant sounding, we know, but don't you remember as a child you would have been afraid of ghosts because it was always 'ghost stories' you heard, never 'spirit stories'!
That's not say that there can't be bad 'spirits', because occasionally there can. However, our perception of this is that ghosts are the energy or soul of someone that has died either unexpectedly or perhaps unpleasantly and so can be frustrated or somewhat lost whilst trying to pass into the spirit realm. So, they are more forceful, angry and even aggressive sometimes in an attempt to get our attention.
Unhappy ghosts such as these are often called Poltergeists. They feed off of our fear. This means that to get our attention they will do things to make us feel uncomfortable, or frightened, if you like. For example, banging doors, things dropping off walls etc.. It's all to get themselves noticed, and, once we acknowledge them without fear, and try to understand why they're about, things will calm down.

Spirits

Spirits on the other hand, in general, are much more subtle in their approach. You may get the shivers or feel very hot as one draws near. You may feel tingles, as if someone is touching your arm, hand or shoulders for example. They can be mischievous, but never harmful. They too will try different ways of getting our attention, but not normally anything that makes us feel uneasy. Another example (and this happens to most people we know) is that things will go missing and miraculously reappear again a few days later. Usually a very good sign that spirit are around!
Spirit are usually here to guide us, whether it be the spirit of a physical person that we once knew (e.g. a late parent or grandparent) or a learned guide from ancient times (maybe an Indian or Egyptian) and so they may bring messages of comfort or advice.

Ghosts on the other hand don't have anything much to contribute (except making us jump!) until they have accepted what's going on and have perhaps been helped to happily pass into the next realm!

Well, there you go a brief insight into the difference between ghost and spirits (of the 'supernatural' kind, not the drinking kind!) We hope it's been helpful and if you have any experiences or ideas that you would like to share with me, please leave a comment.

Haunting And Type Of Hauntings

There are many different theories about the types of hauntings that are out there for you to experience. Because Paranormal Investigating is not an exact science and is open to each persons opinion, it is difficult to categorically say that the types of hauntings mentioned on this list are the only types of hauntings that exist. There are however repeating patterns that paranormal investigators have recognized in general that I will briefly mention here.

Intelligent or Traditional Hauntings

This type of haunting is what most people think of when they hear the word ghost. Unfortunately these types of hauntings are very rare. An intelligent or traditional ghost is kind of like Casper in the sense that they interact with people. The most common belief is that the ghost is connected to the site or people in some way.
Some reasons the ghost may be tied to the site or people:

1) Died as a result of a traumatic event, murder, car accident, etc.
2) Due to unfinished business.
3) The spirit may have died suddenly and not realized he/she died.
4) The living loved ones are so emotionally distraught they can’t let go.
5) The spirit is emotionally connected to their loved ones.
6) They cannot rest due to an injustice done to them.
7) Fear of the other side or judgment

These ghosts are generally associated with physical activity like slamming, opening, closing, unlocking doors and windows, voices, and sounds. A strong presence, a scent, or touch may be experienced. People rarely see a manifestation of the ghost in the form of an apparition or mist.

Residual Haunting

A residual haunt is believed to be activity of reoccurring or traumatic actions from past events that leave an imprint on the environment.
This type is probably the most common type of haunting. Because its' characteristics are similar to the intelligent haunting, people often mistake it for an intelligent/traditional haunting. Like intelligent haunts, some examples of activity are phantom footsteps, sounds, images, and scents. One major difference between this haunting and the intelligent/traditional haunting, is that this type of haunting is not considered to be that of a ghost, and there is no interaction with the living.
It is believed that this activity is the dissipation of stored energy from the site. The theory is the energy is stored or absorbed by the site due to repetitive or traumatic events of the energy expended while performing such actions. Similar to a tape player, the energy is stored in the magnetic field of the environment. Over time the energy builds up and is discharged showing a replay of the event, and then the cycle starts again. Some suggest that atmospheric conditions such as storms may initiate the playback. There is also a quantum physics theory that relates the energy as light particles that are dormant until they are stimulated by an outside variable under the proper conditions. (Brandon, The Ghost Hunters Bible) Researchers have observed that the energy tends to diminish over periods of time until eventually it is either exhausted, or the level is so low that it is not experienced again.

Portal Hauntings

Portals aren't really a new concept, as we've seen them in a lot of sci-fi flicks. But in the real world portal hauntings are considered controversial as there is little known and the idea is mostly theory or speculation. Portals are thought to be doorways to another world or dimension in which entities travel through. It's speculated that portals are not limited to one location, region or limited to sacred ground. Typically places that experience a wide array of different types of anomalous activity such as glowing balls of light, odd creatures, strange shapes, or unexplained mists or fog, are suspected to have a portal in which these energies are traveling back and forth.

Are Ghosts Real?

We've all heard deliciously scary ghost stories, that send a tingle down our spine and keep us awake at night.

Fear of the unknown? Fear of something you don't even believe in? Or do you?

The question to consider is what happens after death? Does your mind fall into a black hole so you can't think or do you actually live on but in the spiritual sense, no longer requiring the cumbersome shell you carried around with you all your life? But then what's the purpose of life? Thats an another question.

I do believe in a life after death, so therefore, I believe that we shall live on spiritually after I pass on.

But that still does not mean that I believe, for this reason, that ghost exist with absolute certainty.

The other aspect to explore is the need for scientific evidence. People have argued that the lack of evidence regarding the existance of ghosts (I remember the time where some people tried to photograph ghosts- I think they succeeded) means they cannot possibly exist. I beg to differ.

There are many things that are unexplained, that leave the scientists baffled but have been seen and so have to be accepted. But what if their not seen. Can't we still accept these things. Do you believe in Angels? In God? If you do, you believe in the unseen, a very strong form of faith.

So ghosts can exist even though not proved by science.

Remember not everything is a figment of peoples imagination. There is always a grain of truth. I mean people in themselves are such fantastic things if you think about it, and I think we definitely exist. So why not ghosts?????

What Are Orbs?

What Are ORBS?

In most instances, ORBS have an earthly explanation. The diodes in old digital cameras are prone to misfire which results in some of the unusual orbs that can look like faces and so on. Digital cameras also have a short focal length which means that particles of dust and rain droplets that are very close to the lens can be captured on the camera.

Although not seen by the naked eye these can appear like balls of light to the camera. This effect is exaggerated further when a flash is used.

What Do ORBS Look Like?

Orbs are usually circular balls of light. Most are usually white orbs though often orbs are red and many other colours. Some orbs appear to have images and faces within them. The orb can be a paranormal phenomenon but most of the orbs caught on cameras may have an earthly explanation.

What Are The ORBS You See In Ghost Pictures?

Found on a standard photograph these can be caused by crystals in the developing fluid that leave a ring on the picture. They can also be caused by the refraction of the light in the camera lens in both digital and in a standard film camera- particularly if you are filming directly into a light source or towards a reflective surface. Dust floating close to the lens will also catch sunlight and appear to be a ball of light. Digital camera have a short focal length so captures dust particles and droplets of rain close to the lens. These appear as brilliant balls of light and because of their varied size give the illusion that they are in perspective and a part of the scene photographed rather than happening close to the camera. This is particularly the case if the background is dark and the light source is from the side or when a flash has been used. Older digital cameras will misfire their diodes in low light to produce orbs in the final image. This is most likely to happen in low light such as in graveyards, dark haunted houses and inside tombs.

Poltergeist

Frightening as these ghosts may be, there's never been a recorded case of anyone being killed by poltergeist activity. It can frighten the wits out of people but can't hurt you.

Most paranormal researchers believe that poltergeists are not 'ghosts' at all, but manifestations of unconscious mental upset, usually in children or teenagers. Repressed energy may suddenly expresses itself by projecting from the person who's troubled and paranormally move objects or make noises. This frightens the person who is at the centre of the activity resulting in more fear that again feeds the escaping psychic energy. But if the fear of the poltergeist activity is overcome the circle is broken and the activity usually fades away

Studies have shown that many of the most famous cases of poltergeist activity have happened in buildings that have been built exactly on the intersection of two major Ley Lines.

To date there is no definitive answer as to the cause of poltergeist activity. It may be a result of a combination of human energies, earth fields and spiritual entities but equally all the theories may be completely wrong and there may yet be a scientific explanation. This strange enigma remains unsolved and the jury is still out.

What Are Ghosts?

What are Evil Spirits? – not as many as people are led to believe. The majority of people, even the misguided and mischevious ones, are basically good. If it were possible for mediums to be attacked by such beings, then there would be no mediums working. The fact is, mediums develop their awareness to such a degree that they are aware of negative energies surrounding people and places. Quite often negative energies are described to evil spirits which is a nonsense.

What are Lost Souls? – another problem area. How can anyone be lost? A spirit person may choose to remain close to earth but that does not mean he or she is lost. Spirit people, when told, may not believe that they are dead and living in spirit but the fact that their friends on earth are ignoring them and there are people they know to be dead are talking to them, has got to make them sit down and wonder. They may feel they are dreaming and refuse any offers of help made to them. Eventually, however, they will become aware of the reality of their surroundings and perhaps find that the ‘dream’ is far more pleasant than was their life on earth.

It is known when every person is to return to spirit, even when the death is accidental or appears to be sudden, and there is always someone waiting to greet everyone. If some people chooses not to take up residence in spirit then that is their choice but it is hard to conceive that they can be lost when there are so many great minds in spirit overseeing and caring for every person on earth.

What are Hauntings? – sometimes someone is thrust into spirit, without going through the normal dying process, and then refuses to leave the house in which s/he lived. A medium can often help in this direction by speaking to them and encouraging them to go with the spirit people waiting to help them. Sometimes the haunting is a build-up of negative energy and can be very oppressive and depressing. Also a haunting can often be traced to poltergeist activity, which usually surrounds a frustrated child entering puberty, and will cease as the child matures. In the meantime, however, the energies can be pretty violent. In such cases Psychical Researchers can be called in to give assistance and to monitor the activity.

What is Possession? – this is not possible but obsession is. The mind is a powerful tool and wrongly used can play tricks. If people have been told, or are themselves convinced, that they are possessed then the mind will oblige. The possession can be (a) imagination; (b) negative energies; (c) a mental imbalance; or (d) the influence of a mischievous spirit who may take advantage of any mental imbalance to draw close. Such a spirit could not, however, physically possess a person’s body – there is no room.

Do Ghosts Exist?

This question has haunted mankind for centuries looking for the truth. Science has always refuted any such existence, but people all over the world admit to encountering such ghosts so this is why it is such a big question for many.

Today, in this modern technically advanced society, if you say "ghost", very few people will believe you. Most think there is no truth in it. Some will hang on your every word. It is all down to what you believe in. This blog is not to make you believe or not believe in ghosts but to ask the question from both sides of the fence.

What is a Ghost?

A ghost has been defined as a "spirit", "apparition" or "soul" that has come back after the death of their bodies. Many reasons have been given why ghosts are here from revenge, horrific deaths, unfinished buisness or just dont want cross over. Ghosts are described as immaterial and transparent and usually reported to haunt particular buildings or locations, you could say that it is an impression of a person or event retained on the atmosphere of a place.
